An odd old find

I was in the midst of digital photo organizing when I came across this photo I took in the Ellis Island hospital wing. It's quite possibly the eeriest photo I've ever taken, partially due to the green tint caused from the odd light source hitting my tungsten balanced film. And the fact that it is in a hospital makes it feel like a still from a Stephen King film...creeeeepy.

A Scroogy Christmas

Eye wasn't feelin this city's love at all yesterday. I found out a good way to self-inflict pain on oneself is to visit Henry Street, the epicenter for shopping in Dublin, the last weekend before Christmas. That's where I found myself yesterday amidst throngs of pushy Dubliners buying up last minute gifts. It was absolutely nauseating. I mean, I literally got a migraine from it all.

The experience actually made me feel ok about not really having the Christmas experience this year. I in Dublin, my mom in Flint, my sister in Detroit, my grandmama in Florida and my brother in Tennesee, it's the first year in my life that there isn't going to be a Stogner Family christmas. It sounds very sad and all, but being among the mass chaos yesterday made me feel liberated from all the obligatory consumeristic give and take of the holidays. Instead of hoping relatives I don't even like appreciate my gifts, on Christmas day, I'll be calling just the ones I do like and appreciating them for just being them.

As I overheard a woman say yesterday in Temple Bar, "People just don't remember the real meaning of christmas." She ofcourse was holding 5 large shopping bags in each hand, but the point is still valid.

The Dance of The Little Green Man

Watch Ben have a little too much fun on the grounds of Trim Castle.

In My Absence

Here are the highlights from the past four chaotic weeks of life in Dublin...

Firstly, I began as an intern last September at the Gallery of Photography. Since then I have been working to put on a massive 30 years of Contemporary Photography exhibit which finally opened at the end of November.

Gallery.

The Staff. The lovely crew of the Gallery and others on opening night.

Rooftop Debriefing. The last of the post-opening, rooftop gathering of staff before the building begins on the roof extension.

Darragh.

Ben at Trim Castle.
Trim Castle on River Boyne. This was the castle just an hour outside of Dublin where they shot much of Braveheart.

Hot Chocolate is for Lovers.

There was something special in the hot chocolate at Trim.

It took no prisoners.

Man on River Boyne.

Kim really wanted to pet the sheep, but they were just too quick.

Ben on Raindrops.

Sara and Ben in Globe.

The Bus Ride Home.

A Swell Night with the Swell Season. We saw them, we met them, we held their Oscar.

Save the Children. Ben and I stumbled upon a massive march in the city center that we joined briefly because it was heading toward the store we were going to.

Thanksgiving week: Ben, Pat and Tracy made the jump over the pond to Ireland for their Thanksgiving Break. The following is just a sample of all the things we did that week.

Malahide Castle.

Ben and sun.

Beware of the risen people that have harried and held, Ye that have bullied and bribed. Scratched into the walls of Kilmainham Gaol by the prisoners.

Freedom's Home. The prison is most famous for its political prisoners it held: Eamon DeValera, the Pearse brothers, and most others who were part of the Irish independence movement.

Cell Window.

The prize at the end of the Jameson tour.

The trail to Howth.

Howth at Sunset.

Bird on Harbour Road.

Ancient burial ground on road to Cliffs of Moher.

Cliffs of Moher. Also the location of the Cliff of Insanity in The Princess Bride.

On the Edge.

Big Boy came along for a pint in Galway.

Blarney at Sunset.
